‘Listen to striking staff, engage in dialogue’: Selja to Hry govt

Hisar: Sirsa MP and Congress general secretary Kumari Selja on Thursday questioned the functioning of the BJP govt in Haryana, alleging a lack of coordination between govt and the administration. She said repeated announcements on the same issues had raised questions about governance and demanded clarity on the implementation of govt’s promises.Selja was speaking during the Congress’s ‘Vote Bachao–Desh Bachao’ public movement march in Ratia. During the event, Selja said crime, drug abuse and unemployment had emerged as major challenges in the state. The Congress leader sought details of the BJP govt’s promises regarding large-scale investment, 10 modern industrial cities and smart city development. She asked govt to disclose how many industrial cities had been developed, the investment received and the number of jobs created. She also called for a public update on housing schemes for economically weaker sections.Raising farmers’ concerns, Selja alleged that cultivators were facing difficulties at mandis and procurement centres. She said the state govt’s claim of providing minimum support price (MSP) for 24 crops should be backed by detailed figures. She asked govt to publish crop-wise procurement data, the number of farmers who benefited from MSP and the amount paid to them.On employees holding protests and strikes across the state, Selja said the state govt should engage in meaningful dialogue with them and ensure transparency in recruitment, transfers and promotions. “Young people from ordinary families of Haryana have brought laurels to the country by winning medals at national and international levels. The state needs better education, sports facilities and employment opportunities to help young people realise their potential,” she added.Referring to the BJP’s promise to develop sports nurseries, she said protecting young people from drug abuse and gang culture had become a major challenge. She urged govt to take concrete measures to safeguard their future.
