KTC enhances bus pass benefits

Panaji: Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) monthly pass holders will receive a 20% subsidy, up from 10%, from Nov 1, chief minister Pramod Sawant said. Annual pass holders will get a 30% subsidy, he said at KTC’s 46th anniversary celebration in Panaji.“Commuters usually claim that sometimes eight to ten days would go unused in a month. This is a round-the-clock service that we provide. As a result, the validity of each card should be counted based on the number of punches on the monthly pass instead of the number of days,” he said.Sawant said the ‘monthly’ pass will no longer count from the first of each month to the first of the next month but will consider the number of days punched. “As a result, the monthly pass will cover 30 days, and the annual pass will cover 365 days,” he said.“This advance card-booking system will be made available across bus stands in Goa. I urge commuters to come forward and avail of this benefit,” said Sawant. The CM praised KTC drivers for their discipline, saying they rarely drink and drive while on duty. “Almost 99.9% of drivers are sober and drive responsibly. This is why most interstate commuters prefer Kadamba over Belgaum buses that are untidy. The KTC drivers ensure that buses are clean,” he said.“KTC is not in competition with private buses. Govt introduced the Mhaji Bus scheme to bring it on a par with private operators. I appeal to everyone to join the scheme. We want to provide the best possible services to the people,” the CM said.KTC chairperson Ulhas Tuenkar said at least 150 buses will be scrapped in 2027 under the 15-year vehicle policy. Minister for Transport, Mauvin Godinho, said KTC is not a profit-making organisation, which is why it has not hiked bus fares despite rising fuel prices.
