Malayalam actor Aaryan has expressed disappointment over Mohanlal’s limited screen time in director Nelson Dilipkumar’s ‘Jailer 2’. While the film satisfied him as a Rajinikanth fan, the actor said Mohanlal’s brief appearance left him disappointed. In his Instagram review, Aaryan also compared the sequel with its predecessor and advised fellow fans of the Malayalam superstar to manage their expectations.

Aaryan says Mohanlal’s screen time left him disappointed

Aaryan shared his reaction after watching ‘Jailer 2’, explaining that his response differed depending on which aspect of the film he considered. Although he appreciated the film as a Rajinikanth admirer and was satisfied with Nelson Dilipkumar’s work, Mohanlal’s limited presence affected his overall experience.“As a Rajinikanth fan, I walked out of Jailer 2 happy. As a Nelson fan, I was pretty much satisfied. But the Mohanlal fan in me walked out with a broken heart (sic),” Aaryan wrote.

The actor also opened up on what made the first installment memorable for him. He praised Nelson Dilipkumar for giving Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar and Jackie Shroff significant moments alongside Rajinikanth. According to Aaryan, the sequel did not offer the same balance between the lead actor and the other prominent performers.“What I loved most about Jailer 1 was how Nelson gave Mohanlal, Shivanna, and Jackie Shroff their own powerful screen presence alongside Rajinikanth. Even in Thalaivar’s film, each of them had their own glorious mass moments. This time, that balance felt missing, with the spotlight leaning a little too heavily towards Rajini alone (sic),” he wrote.

Aaryan questions missing Mohanlal shots

Aaryan also drew attention to scenes featuring Mohanlal in the film’s promotional material. He questioned why some shots seen in the trailer did not make it into the final version. His remarks reflected his disappointment over the difference between what he expected and what appeared on screen.“Nelson bro … couldn’t you have at least kept those Lalettan shots from the trailer (sic)?!” he added.Despite his criticism, Aaryan recommended watching the film. However, he encouraged Mohanlal’s fans to approach it without expecting a substantial appearance from the actor.“Definitely a film worth watching! But my dear fellow Lalettan fans, better leave your expectations outside the theatre before walking in! Still a Nelson fan. Still a Rajini fan. But Ennaikkum Ennaikkum (forever), a Lalettan fan (sic)!” he concluded.

Jishad Shamsudeen explains his reaction

The discussion around Mohanlal’s screen time had earlier drawn response from his costume designer, Jishad Shamsudeen. After his earlier social media post about the actor’s reduced portions attracted attention, Jishad clarified that his comments came from his admiration for Mohanlal.“What I expressed yesterday came purely from the heart of a devoted Lalettan fan. As someone who admires him deeply, it was naturally disheartening to see his portions reduced. At the same time, as a technician in this industry, I wholeheartedly respect the creative process and the autonomy of the filmmakers. Thank you, and sending love,” Jishad wrote on Instagram.Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, ‘Jailer 2’ features Rajinikanth as Muthuvel Pandian, with Mohanlal appearing as Matthew, a notorious smuggler connected to the central character.
