Lucknow: Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh on Friday alleged that ‘vote chori’ had begun in UP, warning that its voters list was being manipulated as lists in Bengal and Delhi allegedly had been.Citing UP Election Commission data, Singh said 13 lakh names had been added without information about them being made public, while around 51,000 names were deleted. He said as per the EC, there were 15.44 crore voters in the state before the SIR, and about 2.90 crore names were deleted during the revision. It was subsequently stated that 84 lakh applications were received for adding names and 4.30 lakh for deleting names.“As per EC rules, details of names added under Form-6 should be made public so that political parties can verify them at the booth and assembly levels. Details of 13 lakh additions have never been made public. That is an increase of 10,000 names each in 130 assembly constituencies,” Singh said.Singh alleged deletion of names under Form-7 requires a prescribed procedure and stated reasons. Of the 4.30 lakh applications for deleting names, 85,000 names were deleted without any reason being given, he added. The MP gave the example of Tarabganj assembly constituency in Gonda district, where applications to delete the names of 188 voters were submitted by a woman named Reshma. However, the woman could not be traced. In several other cases, where large numbers of applications to delete names were submitted in the names of individual persons, Muslim voters were said to make up a high proportion of deletions.
