Allahabad High Court

The Allahabad High Court has directed the Uttar Pradesh government to inspect a school in Azamgarh and a coaching academy allegedly operating under the same management to determine whether students are being shown as enrolled in a “dummy school” without their knowledge. The court has also sought an inquiry into the management of the institution and its alleged links with Shahana International School in Jaunpur.Justice Siddharth Nandan issued the directions while hearing a writ petition filed by Abu Huzaifa against the Uttar Pradesh government and other respondents. According to a report by PTI, the court has asked the authorities to submit an inquiry report along with the personal affidavit of the concerned official by November 2. The principal and manager of the school have also been directed to remain present at the next hearing.

Allahabad High Court seeks report on alleged dummy school admissions

The court’s directions followed allegations that students preparing for competitive examinations may be receiving coaching at one institution while being registered as students at another without their knowledge. In an order dated October 7, the court observed that the material placed before it suggested the possibility of students being shown as admitted to a school without being informed about their enrolment. The state government has been asked to examine the functioning of the Azamgarh school and the coaching academy operating under the same umbrella. The inquiry will also look into the school’s management and its alleged connection with Shahana International School in Jaunpur. The court’s directions seek to establish whether the institutions were involved in the alleged practice and whether students were being registered without their consent.

Petitioner denies admission to Shahana International School

The petitioner’s counsel told the court that Huzaifa had never been a student of Shahana International School, where he was reportedly registered as a Class XI student under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) system. In his rejoinder affidavit, Huzaifa denied applying for admission to the school, attending its classes or paying any fees to the institution. He also questioned the authenticity of the CBSE registration record cited by the respondents in support of his alleged admission.According to the petitioner, the records did not include an admission application, fee receipt, identity card, attendance record or his signature to establish that he had enrolled at the school.

Discrepancy in admission date raised before court

Huzaifa also placed details of his stay at a hostel in Phadgudia and his assessments at another institution before the court. He stated that he had been appearing for assessments at the other institution from July 5, 2025, to March 2026.The petitioner argued that Shahana International School had recorded his admission date as August 12, 2025, even though he was already attending tests and paying fees at a different institution. The discrepancy has raised questions about the circumstances in which his name was entered into the school’s registration records. The court has directed the state authorities to examine the matter and submit their findings.

Inquiry report due by November 2

The Uttar Pradesh government must file the inquiry report and the personal affidavit of the concerned authority by November 2, according to the PTI report. The school principal and manager are also required to appear at the next hearing. The inquiry is expected to examine the allegations concerning the institutions’ functioning and determine whether students were registered at a school without their knowledge. The allegations remain subject to investigation, and the court’s directions do not establish that the school or coaching academy was involved in any wrongdoing.(With inputs from PTI)
