Sigma launches 50-120mm F2.8 telephoto zoom in India, 16-300mm superzoom gets a new mount
A palm-sized F2.8 telephoto for APS-C shooters.

Sigma has two new APS-C lenses on the way in India, and both are aimed at photographers who would rather not keep swapping glass. The 50-120mm F2.8 DC OS | Contemporary goes on sale on October 22, while the 16-300mm F3.5-6.7 DC OS | Contemporary, already sold for other mounts, reaches Nikon Z cameras on November 5.The 50-120mm is the all-new one of the pair. It brings a constant F2.8 aperture to an APS-C telephoto zoom, covering roughly 75-180mm in full-frame terms, in a body just 99mm long and 390g in its Sony E-mount version. It will be available for Sony E, Fujifilm X and Canon RF cameras. It also completes the company’s F2.8 zoom trio for crop-sensor cameras. With the existing 10-18mm F2.8 and 18-50mm F2.8, all three lenses together weigh under a kilogram and run from ultra-wide to telephoto.Inside are one FLD, three SLD and four aspherical elements. A High-response Linear Actuator (HLA) handles autofocus, focus breathing is kept low for video, and stabilisation is rated at 6.5 stops at 50mm and 4.5 stops at 120mm. The focus mode and OS switches are gone entirely, so those settings now live in the camera body. It also gets dust and splash resistance, plus a water- and oil-repellent front coating.

Nikon Z shooters get Sigma’s 18.8x superzoom in November

The 16-300mm is built as a one-lens kit. Its 18.8x zoom range is, by Sigma’s count, a world first for an autofocus interchangeable lens on mirrorless cameras, and it focuses close enough for 1:2 magnification. Stabilisation is rated at 6 stops at 16mm and 4.5 stops at 300mm. For Nikon, AF drive and communication speed have been tuned to the Z mount, with support for continuous AF, in-camera aberration correction on compatible bodies, and a rubber-sealed mount. Both lenses follow the full-frame 85mm F1.2 DG | Art and 20-60mm F2.8-4 DG | Contemporary, which went on sale in India on September 30. For APS-C users, the choice now comes down to one lens that reaches 300mm, or three that hold F2.8 all the way to 120mm.
