Woman alleges Pune animal shelter refused to return her 7 dogs, demands Rs3.5 lakh

Pune: The founder and a trustee of an animal rescue and shelter centre allegedly refused to return a woman’s seven dogs. Instead, the duo demanded Rs3.5 lakh from her to return them.Lohegaon police on Thursday registered a case against the duo under sections 314 (dishonest misappropriation of property) and 316 (criminal breach of trust) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).The 39-year-old woman, a resident of Lohegaon, stated in her complaint that she had temporarily left her seven dogs at the shelter in January this year. However, when she sought their return, the shelter’s office-bearers allegedly refused to hand them over. “The woman alleged that the founder and the trustee abused her. They also demanded Rs3.5 lakh from her and threatened her,” an officer from Lohegaon police said.Police are investigating further.
