Bhubaneswar: Amid a nationwide row over the alleged deletion of eligible voters during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the Odisha chief electoral officer (CEO) on Wednesday launched a special drive to enrol voters who may have been left out during the exercise, as part of a similar exercise across the country.Deputy chief electoral officer Laxmi Prasad Sahu said the enrolment of eligible left-out voters, if any, will continue till Oct-end. However, a three-day special campaign beginning Wednesday will focus on identifying such voters and facilitating their inclusion in the electoral roll.“As part of the special drive, booth-level officers (BLOs) will conduct door-to-door visits with lists of deleted voters to verify whether any eligible voter has been inadvertently left out and enrol them,” said Sahu. The CEO’s office has urged citizens to check the electoral roll and submit Form 6 if their names are missing. Young voters who attained 18 years of age as on Oct 1, 2026, will also be eligible for inclusion in the voter list. “Across Odisha, special camps are helping voters access voter registration and electoral roll services with ease. Every eligible voter to be enrolled,” the Election Commission of India shared on X.More than 17 lakh names were removed during Odisha’s SIR exercise. The final electoral roll, published on Sept 21, fixed the state’s electorate at 3.16 crore. The deleted names included around two lakh absent electors, 8.8 lakh voters who had permanently shifted, 8.32 lakh deceased persons, 1.58 lakh duplicate entries and about 14,000 cases involving age-related discrepancies.
