Trichy: Almost five months after Railway Board okayed a long-pending rail connectivity demand between Trichy and Tirupati by extending the Guntur – Tirupati express up to Trichy, the service of the train has not started yet.As major festivals such as Vaikunta Ekadasi are only two months away, Trichy MP Durai Vaiko has requested Southern Railway and South Central Railway to release the schedule and commence the extended train service to Trichy. The MP said a notification was issued on May 8, approving train no. 17261/17262 operating between Guntur and Tirupati, to be extended till Trichy. It facilitates direct daytime rail connectivity between Trichy, home to Srirangam Ranganathaswamy Temple, and Tirupati Venkateswara Swamy temple. “The announcement is yet to benefit the people as the detailed operational schedule is not released by the railways yet. Not just devotees, students studying in educational institutions in Trichy will also benefit,” Durai said in a statement.
