Ariana Grande has spent much of her career under a microscope, with everything from her makeup and hairstyles to her changing appearance becoming a topic of conversation online. But when it comes to cosmetic procedures, the singer has been pretty open about what she has and hasn’t had done.During a Vanity Fair lie-detector test with her Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo, Grande was asked directly about some of the procedures people have speculated about over the years.Did she get a nose job? “No.”
A brest enhancement job? “No, can you imagine?”
And what about a facelift? Grande again said no, though she laughed and admitted that she isn’t completely against the idea in the future. But there was one part of the conversation where Grande did confirm having cosmetic work done.“I’ve had fillers in various places, and Botox. But I stopped like four years ago. And that is the extent,” she said during the test. The lie-detector examiner confirmed that she was telling the truth.
Ariana Grande on why she stopped fillers and Botox
This isn’t the first time Grande has spoken about stepping away from injectables. In Vogue’s Beauty Secrets video, she revealed that she had used lip filler and Botox in the past but stopped in 2018 because she felt she had gone “too much”. She also spoke about how her relationship with beauty had changed as she got older.“For a long time, beauty was about hiding for me,” Grande said at the time, explaining that she had once used makeup, hair and other beauty choices as ways to hide behind her appearance. That relationship with beauty looks different for her now.Grande said she wanted to see her “well-earned cry lines and smile lines” and hoped her smile lines would get deeper as she laughed more. For her, getting older didn’t have to mean trying to erase every sign of it.And she wasn’t judgemental about people who choose cosmetic procedures either.“Whatever makes you feel beautiful, I do support,” she said, while leaving the door open to possibly having a facelift someday.
A different take on celebrity beauty
Grande’s comments stand out because celebrity beauty is often discussed through speculation, before-and-after pictures and endless guesses about what someone may or may not have had done. She has instead spoken about her own choices in fairly simple terms: she has had fillers and Botox, decided they weren’t for her anymore and feels more comfortable with a less disguised version of herself. At the same time, she has made it clear that her decision isn’t a rule for anyone else. For Grande, beauty has become less about hiding and more about feeling comfortable with what she sees in the mirror. And perhaps that’s the most interesting part of her beauty evolution.
