JAMMU: A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) head constable who allegedly opened indiscriminate fire and killed four of his colleagues in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua had a heated argument with them over bringing his child to the workplace at a hydroelectric power project, police said.The accused, head constable Avdesh Kumar Singh, has been sent to seven days’ police remand for further investigation, officials said.CISF DG Parveen Ranjan visited the spot to take stock of the situation and get a first-hand report from officers about the circumstances that led to the incident.In a shocking incident on Tuesday evening, Singh allegedly fired 18 rounds from his service weapon, killing four CISF personnel, including assistant commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey, sub-inspector Lakshman Singh, and constables Rafiq Ahmed and Sandeep Kumar, after a heated argument.The incident took place at the Sewa hydroelectric power project in Mashka village in Basohli, near the border with Himachal Pradesh.Singh, a native of Bihar, is married in Jammu.His wife, Head Constable Pooja Devi, is also posted with the CISF in Basohli. Both were posted at the same project site and assigned duties in different shifts.The unit administration had not permitted Pooja to enter or stay in the Quarter Guard area with their child.The couple, who worked different shifts at the same site, would bring their around two-and-a-half-year-old child to the project site so that one could hand over the toddler to the spouse returning from duty, an official said.“The couple was repeatedly asked not to bring the child to the project site,” the official said.According to police, the issue again led to an argument between the personnel on Tuesday evening, which escalated when Singh allegedly opened indiscriminate fire on his colleagues.“Even on Tuesday, one of them had brought the child to the site to hand him over to the spouse, and someone complained about it to the Company Commander. This led to an altercation,” an officer said.Sources said the complaint made to assistant commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey enraged Singh. In a fit of rage, he allegedly walked into the Operations Section office near the main gate, where the four personnel were present, and opened fire.After the firing, Singh was overpowered by other CISF personnel and later handed over to local police for further investigation.The four injured personnel were taken to an NHPC hospital in Himachal Pradesh, where they later died of their injuries.
