NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Tuesday registered an FIR against AAP MLA Jarnail Singh, Saurabh Bharadwaj and other party workers for allegedly assaulting a head constable during a protest outside police headquarters against Delhi minister Parvesh Verma.AAP leaders were demanding an FIR against Verma for slapping a person during a road inspection in West Delhi’s Tilak Nagar.“An FIR has been registered regarding the assault on a Delhi Police head constable. The FIR mentions the names of Saurabh Bharadwaj, Jarnail Singh, and AAP workers. An FIR has also been registered against Sahib Singh. Arvind Kejriwal had visited Tilak Nagar yesterday,” Delhi Police said.“The Delhi Police head constable was recording a video while in plain clothes. A crowd of AAP supporters surrounded and assaulted him. Subsequently, the Head Constable underwent a medical examination. A case has been registered under sections related to obstructing a public servant in the discharge of official duties and assaulting a public servant,” it added.Meanwhile, AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj, along with other party leaders, was also detained during the protest.The complaint comes amid a political row over an alleged slapping incident involving Verma during a road inspection in Tilak Nagar on September 27. A purported video of the incident was shared by AAP leaders, showing Verma allegedly slapping Singh during a confrontation over the quality of a newly constructed road.Speaking to ANI before his detention during an AAP protest outside Vikaspuri police station, Bharadwaj alleged that Verma attacked the cameraman after AAP MLA Jarnail Singh demonstrated the poor quality of the road.

“When Jarnail Singh—in the presence of minister Parvesh Verma and the camera—demonstrated the poor quality of the road by breaking off a piece with his hands to expose the corruption and embezzlement of funds in road construction, Parvesh Verma flew into a rage. He attacked the cameraman, snatched his phone, slapped him, and attempted to destroy the evidence of corruption; when the young man lunged back towards him, he fled in fear and hid behind the police,” Bharadwaj had said.Meanwhile, Sahib Singh, who alleged that Verma slapped him during the road inspection, claimed that the minister snatched his phone, twisted his arm and assaulted him after the condition of the road was highlighted. Singh also alleged that the police accepted his complaint but did not register an FIR against Verma.
