Kolkata: A mob of around 60 people allegedly stormed into a house church in North 24 Parganas’ Madhyamgram and vandalised it while the Sunday prayer service was on. A complaint has been lodged with Ghola Police Station.A Sunday prayer service turned into a scene of chaos in North 24 Parganas’ Madhyamgram after an armed mob of around 60 people allegedly vandalised the ‘Family of God’, a house church, around 6 pm during an ongoing service. A formal complaint has been lodged with Ghola Police Station.The incident occurred around 6 pm when the mob attacked the residence of Apu Sarkar, where the ‘Family of God’ church is housed. The miscreants damaged furniture and tore up copies of the Holy Bible. They clashed with devotees as the latter tried to save the scripture.“They pushed me to the ground and pinned my son to the ground. My daughter was threatened,” said attendee Ratna Adhikari.Police dispersed the mob but no arrests were made.A relative of Sarkar said, “We have never faced such a situation and we have never seen these people. They abused attendees for no reason. They told us to stop our services and said they would return. We no longer feel safe here.”Herod Mullick, founding state secretary of the Bangiya Christiya Parisheba (BCP), said, “Every Sunday, incidents like this are happening somewhere or another, yet the govt remains silent. How are such planned attacks being executed day after day? We feel completely helpless.”
