India continued its strong showing in archery at the Asian Games on Sunday, with both its compound mixed and recurve mixed teams booking their places in the semifinals at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Square.The compound mixed team of Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Jadhav produced two composed performances, defeating Mongolia 160-146 in the Round of 16 before overcoming Kazakhstan 159-154 in the quarterfinals.The recurve mixed team of Dhiraj Bommadevra and Kumkum Anil Mohod was even more dominant, sweeping aside the UAE 6-0 in the Round of 16 before recording another 6-0 victory over Vietnam in the quarterfinals.
Compound mixed team carries Olympic quota significance
The compound mixed team event carries added significance at the Asian Games, with the discipline set to make its Olympic debut at the LA28 Games.One Olympic quota place is available through the Asian Games in the compound mixed team event, raising the stakes for the teams still in contention for the continental title.Overall, eight LA28 Olympic quota places are available through the Asian Games. Two quota places each are on offer in the men’s and women’s individual recurve events, while the champions in the recurve mixed team and compound mixed team events will earn one men’s and one women’s quota place respectively.
Compound men’s and women’s teams also reach semis
India’s compound archers had already secured two more semifinal berths earlier in the day. The women’s team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep edged Kazakhstan 233-230 in the quarterfinals.The men’s trio of Kushal Dalal, Sahil Jadhav and Ganesh Mani Ratnam also advanced to the last four after defeating Bhutan 235-232.
