Kochi: The high court has directed that personnel engaged under Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA) Project 2 at Kerala Institute of Local Administration (Kila), Thrissur, shall not be disengaged during the currency of the project.A bench of Justice Viju Abraham passed the judgment in the petition filed by Anu Roy, Amrutharaj R M and Sruthi K, challenging the abrupt move by Kila to terminate their engagement, even though the project term had been extended until at least the end of Sept 2026.Kila officials, the respondents, contended that the project, which aimed at strengthening Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) to function as effective, self-sustaining units of local self-govt, ends by Sept 2026 and no decision had been taken to continue it. The court, however, held that the petitioners’ right is to continue till the project exists, relying on Supreme Court’s judgment in Mohammed Abdul Kadir vs director general of police, Assam.It further ordered that the petitioners shall not be disengaged during the currency of RGSA Project 2 at Kila. They are also entitled to salary for the period they have actually worked.
