Akola: Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has stepped up inspections against suspected adulterated and substandard khova and other dairy-based sweets being brought into the city ahead of the festive season. In two separate actions, the department seized around 1,200kg of suspected substandard khova at Nimwadi bus stand and another 150kg of khova and sweets from a godown in Sindhi Camp area.An FDA team reached Nimwadi bus stand after receiving information that a consignment of khova and material used for preparing sweets had arrived from Gujarat. Officials who seized 1,200kg of khova said samples would be sent for laboratory analysis.In a separate operation, FDA team raided a godown in Pakki Khole area of Sindhi Camp following information that suspected substandard khova and other material had been stored there. The godown was locked but officials opened it as per procedure. During the search, officials found nearly 150kg of khova, mawa and kalakand along with other food items.FDA officials said further action under the Food Safety and Standards Act would be initiated if laboratory tests establish that the products were adulterated, substandard or otherwise failed to meet prescribed food safety standards.
