VISAKHAPATNAM: Four people, including a mother-and-daughter duo and mother-and-son duo died of electrocution in two separate incidents in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday, as heavy rains and gales battered the region.In the first incident, Rongala Janaki, 28, and her mother Gompa Manga, 55, died of electrocution at Gollaveedhi of Nathavaram mandal in Anakapalle district while Janaki’s husband Rongala Nagaraju suffered injuries in the incident.The galvanised iron (GI) wire that was touching a live electric wire at their residence was hanging precariously from the top of their house due to continuous rains and gales.Janaki in the wee hours on Thursday stepped outside to go to the washroom and she accidentally came into contact with the hanging GI wire and suffered an electric shock.Hearing her screams, her mother, Manga, attempted to rescue her but also suffered an electric shock and collapsed.Later, Janaki’s husband Nagaraju tried to remove the wire using a wooden stick. He too suffered an electric shock and began screaming.Janaki’s father subsequently attempted to remove the wire with the help of a stick.Hearing the screams, neighbours immediately contacted the electrical substation, following which the power supply was disconnected.By then, Janaki and her mother Manga had suffered fatal electric shocks and died at the scene. The injured S Nagaraju was shifted to the government hospital at Narsipatnam for treatment.In another incident, 32-year-old M Venkateswarlu and his mother M Ramadevi, 52, died of electrocution at Cheruvu Upparapalem in Bapatla district.The duo were electrocuted after coming into contact with snapped electrical wire during rains and gales.
