As Apple Pay launch in India nears, the company has a new job listing for a Business Development Manager – Wallet, Payments and Commerce. As per the job listing, the person hired for the role will “help grow and drive payment services as a part of Wallets, Payments & Commerce”. The iPhone-maker is expected to finally launch the Apple Pay in India next month, i.e October. A Reuters report previously stated that Apple may partner with Axis Bank as its first major banking partner in the country.

As per the listing, the individual will handle strategic commercial negotiations, partnerships, business development areas, as well as platform integration of Issuers, Acquirers and POS vendors for different Apple Pay product offerings onto the Apple Pay platform in India.“This is a role that works cross functionally with Technical Project Manager leads, Apple Pay Engineering, Operations, Privacy, Compliance, Legal and Product Marketing. Externally, it works with Banks, payment regulator, payment networks, acquirers, merchants, integrators, credential managers and software/hardware vendors to help define and deliver a wide variety of exiting Wallet solutions,” the listing says.The individual will manage all aspects of the partner relationship including; early engagement, account and project management, new product and feature introductions, commercial and contractual matters.“As a key member of the team, the incumbent will help sell a vision of the Wallet experience and consumer benefits to senior executives, successfully negotiate, close deals and lead the tactical execution to quickly grow our business in a sustainable way. He/she will work closely with our strategic partners to help develop best practice Wallet deployments and ensure that they are our primary development partners for new Wallet features. Internally, the individual will work with Apple product and engineering teams to influence product roadmap and provide feedback received from partners in the field”.Responsibilities will include:
- Establish, develop and grow strong business relationships with payment providers, banks, international and domestic payment networks etc
- Close commercial and contractual terms terms with partners in India
- Stay apprised of changing payments & regulatory landscape to make certain that the global strategy is aligned to meet local market needs
- Monitor performance of implemented solutions to establish outstanding service for customers and to find opportunities for partner improvements
- Drive engagement of payment solutions ensuring all product and compliance requirements are met
- Help drive substantive and measurable change in adoption rate, usage, penetration and scale
- Manage multiple parties and projects from initiation to completion while providing consistent updates and communication to business leadership.
Apple Pay may launch in India next month
Apple Pay could finally launch in India as early as October. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman stated in his Power On newsletter that Apple is preparing to launch Apple Pay in India “finally” next month. The service is expected to support card payments, while there are also reports that Apple could bring UPI support to the platform. The service was first launched in the US in 2014.
