Belagavi: A woman from Raibag was cheated of Rs 1.9 lakh after responding to a social media advertisement offering a part-time job and investment opportunity in marketing. A complaint in this regard was lodged at the Belagavi CEN police station.According to police, the complainant came across an Instagram ad on Sept 3 offering an opportunity to earn money through a ‘part-time marketing service position’. Initially, the woman was assigned tasks of posting online reviews of hotels and a small amount paid to her, winning her confidence.Later, the accused allegedly told her that she could earn higher returns by investing larger amounts through the same Telegram group. Trusting the assurances, the woman transferred a total of Rs 1,87,800 through multiple online transactions between Sept 4 and 7. However, she received only Rs 7,850 in return. When she sought the return of the remaining investment, the accused allegedly avoided her, and also did not return the money.
