Collin Morikawa had one of the happiest weeks of his life. The 29-year-old golfer won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and then shared even bigger news. Collin Morikawa and his wife, Katherine Zhu, are expecting their first baby later this year. He revealed this joyful update in an interview with CBS Sports reporter Amanda Balionis right after his emotional win on Sunday, February 15. The victory itself was special because it was Morikawa’s first PGA Tour win in more than two years. But the baby news made the moment even more meaningful. Smiling during the interview, he said, “Putting golf aside, we are actually expecting later this year, in a few months. We just started telling people this week. We said, what better way, the best way, to just announce it to the world if I was able to come out and win.” He also spoke about gratitude and family. Morikawa added, “There’s so much to life. There’s so much to enjoy. I’m hard on myself… I’m just so thankful for the people around me. My team, Kat, my wife, my parents, my brother. I’m speechless right now.” The moment showed both relief and pure happiness after a long wait for another win.
Collin Morikawa credits wife Katherine Zhu for his strength on and off the golf course
Collin Morikawa and Katherine Zhu married in 2022. Zhu is a marathon runner and also played golf in college before briefly turning professional. Over the years, Morikawa has openly shared how difficult it can be to focus when his game is not going well. In an interview with Us Weekly in 2025, he explained, “Golf is a big part of my life and who I am. When it’s going great, it’s very easy to separate yourself. But when it’s not going as well, your mind is constantly thinking about golf… It’s just a never-ending cycle.”He also described the mental pressure golfers face. Morikawa said, “It takes a toll out of you. I don’t think people realize the stress it puts on our bodies that we go through every single day. We are trying to perfect this game… There’s always going to be struggles that you have to maintain and balance.”Through all of this, Katherine Zhu has remained his biggest support. Morikawa shared, “I wouldn’t say it’s a necessity for everyone, but it’s a necessity for me. I’m so proud of her… the motivation she gives me with what she does with her running, it pushes me every day to get better.” He added, “It’s lucky to have your best friend by your side and be able to go out and enjoy life, travel the world, see new places and do what I love.”Now, with a new win and a baby on the way, Morikawa is entering a joyful new chapter in both golf and family life.
