Ganeshotsava tableau organisers booked for defying loudspeaker restrictions

Mangaluru: Puttur Town police have registered a case against the organisers of Panchamukhi Friends tableau and others for allegedly using a loudspeaker beyond the permitted limits during a public Ganeshotsava immersion procession on Sept 17.According to police, the incident occurred near Puttur KSRTC bus stand junction during the immersion procession. Police officials noticed that the loudspeaker installed on the tableau was being used in violation of the prescribed norms, and was causing inconvenience to the public.A police sub-inspector from Puttur Town police station instructed those concerned to stop using the loudspeaker. The tableau organisers initially complied with the instruction.However, accused Ajith Rai Hosamane and others allegedly arrived at the spot, objected to the police action and prevented the organisers from stopping the loudspeaker. They allegedly provoked others present at the spot and continued using the loudspeaker, despite being informed about Supreme Court’s directions governing the use of loudspeakers.The accused also allegedly obstructed police personnel in the discharge of their official duties.Puttur Town police have registered a case under Sections 49, 132 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Sections 103 and 109 of the Karnataka Police Act. Investigation is under way.
