Bathinda: Canada has deported four Indian nationals of Punjab-origin linked to extortion and organised crime, bringing the total number of deportations under a broader crackdown to 111 out of 188 people ordered removed, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) said in a statement issued late Monday.The deportations follow a crackdown by Canadian law enforcement on criminal syndicates targeting the South Asian community. On Sept 7, Calgary police released photos of 15 suspects connected to an extortion investigation that has yielded 56 charges against 16 people.The agency identified the four deportees as Palwinder Singh, Jasmer Singh, Amitoz Bajwa and Sahibjot Singh.The Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada ruled the men inadmissible under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for criminality or membership in organised crime networks.While Palwinder Singh was linked to a late 2025 extortion-related shooting and removed for membership in a violent criminal group, Jasmer Singh was convicted of forcible confinement and deported for serious criminality.Amitoz Bajwa was linked to firearms offences and an extortion shooting and removed for organised criminal activity, the agency said, adding Sahibjot Singh was removed after admitting to offences associated with a criminal group’s broader pattern of activity.
