Three men were stabbed in Brooklyn early Monday, with one left in critical condition, before the West Indian American Day Parade and J’Ouvert Festival began in Crown Heights.The attack happened around 5:48 a.m. near Carroll Street and Utica Avenue in Crown Heights, according to police reported by The New York Post.A 32-year-old man and a 23-year-old man suffered stab wounds to the neck, while a 36-year-old man was stabbed in the face.Emergency crews took all three men to Kings County Hospital. The 32-year-old remained in critical condition, while the other two victims were listed in stable condition.Police said no arrests had been made.The stabbing occurred only blocks from the J’Ouvert Festival, which was due to begin at 6 a.m. and continue until the main parade started at 11 a.m.The NYPD had already announced a major security operation for the Labor Day celebrations, with thousands of officers deployed along the parade route and in surrounding neighbourhoods from Sunday night through Monday.The main parade is scheduled to end at 5:30 pm, with the earlier finish announced after six people were shot during last year’s celebrations.“This is one of our department’s largest deployments of the year at this time,” NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said Friday, adding that officers would be stationed throughout the parade routes and nearby areas.The West Indian American Day Parade is New York’s largest Caribbean cultural celebration. The 2026 event is the 59th annual edition and will feature J’Ouvert, masquerade bands, soca and calypso performances along Eastern Parkway under the theme “MAS.”
