NAMAKKAL: Residents of Kolaram, Serukkalai, Lathuvadi and nearby villages protested outside Namakkal district collector’s office on Monday, demanding cancellation of permission granted to a private company to establish LPG bottling plant near Paramathi Velur. The villagers said the proposed site was close to govt schools, residential colonies, agricultural land, poultry farms and DTCP-approved housing plots. They alleged the plant would pose serious public safety risks and threaten the livelihoods of farmers and poultry owners.“Our children study in schools located just a short distance from the proposed site. If such a hazardous plant is allowed here, it will endanger not only their safety but also our way of life,” Kolaram resident R Murugan said.Protesters urged the district administration to immediately revoke the permission, saying public safety and livelihoods should take precedence over industrial expansion.
