1 more arrested in kidney transplant racket in Kanpur

Kanpur: The Kanpur police arrested Parvez Saifi, a suspect in the kidney transplant case, and his aide in the Rawatpur area late Tuesday and seized Rs 9 lakh in cash.Saifi, a Meerut resident deemed a notorious criminal by police, was reportedly connected to Drs Afzal and Rohit, and allegedly provided vehicles to the doctors implicated in the case.DCP (West) SM Qasim Abidi stated that Saifi organised the transportation for Dr Afzal, Dr Rohit, and other NCR staff to Kanpur. He worked with Dr Afzal on logistics and transportation and was involved in reconnaissance before the operation.According to police, the accused — Kuldeep and Rajesh Kumar who were recently jailed — mentioned his name during interrogation. Police earlier discovered a video of Dr Afzal and Parvez on the phone of jailed Shivam Agrawal, showing them lying on bundles of Rs 500 notes. Police mentioned that the money was given by a women from Muzaffarnagar, who underwent the kidney transplant. Dr Afzal received Rs 22 lakh, of which Rs 10 lakh was taken by Parvez.Police said video and audio evidence were obtained during the investigation, providing important leads. An audio recording revealed the death of a woman after the transplant. The investigation regarding the donor-recipient relationship was ongoing. Police said new facts emerged from the interrogation of accused Shivam, which were being used for further legal action.Police said the transplants at Ahuja Hospital in Keshavpuram and Medilife Hospital in Maswanpur involved Dr Rohit, Dr Afzal, OT assistant Mudassar Ali, Kuldeep Singh Raghav, Rajesh Kumar, among others. So far, the police have sent Ahuja Hospital director Dr Surjit Singh, Dr Preeti Ahuja, Shivam Agrawal, Rajesh Kumar, Ram Prakash Kushwaha, Narendra Singh, Kuldeep Singh Raghav, and Rajesh Kumar Tomar to jail.
